Grocott Developments approached Knights Construction Group for assistance installing silage clamps and drainage on an industrial scale.
Knights Construction worked closely with the Environment Agency and our structural engineers to ensure full compliance with SAFFO regulations.
The project design included a drainage system with 20,000L underground storage tank, with the effluent pumped into a 40m diameter, 5 megalitre capacity above ground storage tank.
Firstly, the earthworks team cleared and prepared the site ready for construction works. During construction, pre-cast concrete panels were installed and supported before the flooring team laid the in-situ concrete slabs to tie the robust structure together.
Foundations and the ground slab for the above ground storage tank was then cast in place enabling install of the storage tank. Connecting the two main elements was a network of drainage pipework, underground collection tanks and a pumping station.
The project was completed in 12 weeks – despite difficult winter weather conditions and resulted in an impressive 5,000m3 of silage storage. The project included an extensive hardstanding in front of the silage clamps to allow easy access and run off collection.
